Austin, Texas-based Black Collar Arms this week dropped a fully modular .22 LR platform called the Texas Typewriter, built around a 10/22-compatible monolithic receiver. The entire action is built into the chassis, creating a rigid, light, and modular platform that Black Collar bills as “the first truly modern rimfire.”

The Typewriter is available as a complete gun or build kit in rifle, SBR, or pistol configuration. Its monolithic architecture sets the Texas Typewriter apart, as Black Collar replaced the traditional Ruger 10/22 receiver and rifle stock with a single ultra-rigid receiver. The forend and stock mount directly to the receiver, which saves weight, improves strength, and makes for a low profile.

With a folding stock, the gun weighs less than 4 pounds. There are options for different styles of removable top rails as well as an ambidextrous bolt knob, and not to worry, the Typewriter is still compatible with Ruger 10/22 parts. Those include bolts, triggers, magazines, and barrels, so buyers can tap into the expansive aftermarket options for the 10/22 platform. There are also a wide variety of available stock modules that allow for mounting just about any stock on the market – Picatinny rail, buffer tube, AK-47, and 870 shotgun styles.

Build kits start at $694.20, with the complete rifle priced at $1,500 and the pistol configuration starting at $1,350. The guns are now shipping.
