The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a university a nearly seven-figure grant to develop a national program to provide students with correct information on the right to keep and bear arms. 

The two-year, $908,991 grant, issued to the Firearms Research Center in the University of Wyoming’s College of Law, will develop teachable information as part of the “Armed with Knowledge: A Nonpartisan Second Amendment Initiative.” These will include instructional videos, webinars, and other tools to help deliver "historically grounded" content to the Second Amendment. 

"Our project will honor the nation’s 250th anniversary by allowing educators to engage with the complexity and nuance of the country’s founding documents," said UW Firearms Research Center Executive Director Ashley Hlebinsky. "As the nation approaches its semiquincentennial, the ability to not only possess an intellectually rigorous grasp of constitutional text, structure and jurisprudence, but also to respectfully discuss and debate with those who possess a range of beliefs, has never been greater."

Hlebinsky is well known to the gun community, having long been curator at the Cody Firearms Museum and as a producer and on-screen historian on several Discovery Channel shows to include "Mountain Men: Ultimate Marksmen," "Master at Arms," and "Man vs. History." She has also testified before the Senate on 2A issues, dropping truth bombs and dispelling gun myths in the process.
