SureFire Debuts New SOCOM-4 Series Flow Through Suppressors
SureFire has updated its vaunted bombproof SOCOM suppressor line with new cans that are more modern and effective while being lighter on the pocketbook.
The company is a quiet game staple, having started its silencer division over 20 years ago and going on to win the official U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) suppressor contract for 5.56 cans in 2011. Since then, its SOCOM-RC2 and RC3 series cans have doubled and tripled down on its legacy with generational improvements that paved the way for the new SOCOM-4, which was announced this week.
The company advises that the new series is constructed in-house of 100-percent Inconel, using precision-machined and 3D-printed components with an "entirely new front-to-back design with improved gas-flow dynamics." SureFire claims the new cans deliver 60 percent less backpressure than a traditional suppressor while still being full-auto rated.
The two cans in the SOCOM-4 series at launch are both 5.56, with the longer flagship RC4 and the shorter MINI4.
The new SureFire SOCOM556-RC4, shown here, is described by the company as "the ultimate fighting suppressor." It weighs 17 ounces and is 6.3 inches long. The shorter/lighter 5.5-inch/15-ounce SureFire SOCOM556-MINI4 still offers flash reduction on barrels as short as 10.3 inches in length. (Photos: Surefire)
SureFire's fourth-generation gas flow dynamics and all-new muzzle design "significantly suppress flash viewed from the front, providing a huge advantage in a head-on gunfight."
SOCOM-4 suppressors are optimized for use with SureFire's open-tine flash hiders, making them backward compatible with millions of Fast-Attach muzzle devices already in circulation.
The MSRP on the SOCOM556-RC4 is $1,549, while the SOCOM556-MINI4 is $1,448. Compare this to the $1,799 ask of the RC3 when it was launched two years ago – back when $1,799 was a bit more cash than it is in today's dollars.
