Smith & Wesson announced its new steel-framed 9mm M&P9 M2.0 Metal HD and Competitor HD pistols on the eve of SHOT Show 2026. The two heavy-duty models feature rugged stainless-steel frames and slides with Armornite finishes and 5-inch barrels.

The M&P Metal HD wears aggressive grip texture and an updated slide serration pattern. It has the M2.0 flat-faced trigger. Sighting options include Night Fision tritium sights and a C.O.R.E. optics-ready package for adding a red dot.

It comes to an empty weight of 34.9 ounces, with a length of 8.25 inches and a height of 5.5 inches. Two 17-round magazines are included with the gun.

Meanwhile, the M&P Competitor HD offers a spiral-fluted, stainless-steel barrel and extra-aggressive slide serrations. The slide sports lightening cuts, bringing the unloaded weight to a slightly lighter 34.5 ounces.

It shares the same dimensions and capacity as the Metal HD and offers the C.O.R.E. optics package, but the front of the slide is topped with a HiViz tritium sight. Other upgrades include an external magwell and an extended magazine release. The Competitor HD ships with two 17-round mags.

Smith & Wesson added three slots of Picatinny rail up front for lights and lasers. Both guns come with four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts. Models featuring thumb safeties and 10-round compliant mags are available as well.

MSRP for the Metal HD is set at $1,149. The Competitor is set at $1,299.
