  4. Shield Sights Expands Selection with Clear-Top OMSx Pistol Optic, AMSx for Rifles

Some brands don’t get as much attention as they deserve, and Shield Sights is certainly on that list. It is impossible to go handgun shooting today without finding a model that is cut for a pistol optic, and many of the advancements in handgun optics are due to the work and development of our friends over at Shield Sights. 
 

The Company


For 30 years, Shield Sights has been innovating handgun optics. The company started off servicing the red dot that sat atop the SA80’s Elcan optic in British military service and is still innovating in the world of handgun optics today. 

Shield Sights has set a standard when it comes to the RMSc footprint, which the company has been using since 1996. This design has been selected by Glock, Walther, Canik, Springfield, and countless other companies for several of their pistol lines. 
 

OMSx

 

 

Shield Sights’ founder had a dream: a red dot that just sits there with no real housing. This sight picture would show the dot, the entirety of the target, and the surrounding environment to make the best shot possible. Ever since, the company’s goal has been to make that dream a reality. 
 

The folks at Shield Sights have a dream of a red dot that just floats above the firearm with no obstruction, and the OMSx is one step closer to that goal.

Last year, Shield Sights launched the OMSsc, which has a clear top layer on the housing that basically eliminates the top outline of the sight box. This year, Shield launches the OMSx, the largest version of the same concept. This design allows for maximum target information input, giving the shooter a clear sight picture. 

As one of Shield’s larger pistol optics to date, it offers a massive field of view.
 

AMSx

 

 

While Shield Sights is mainly known for pistol optics, the company does have larger optics for rifles. The AMSx is an enclosed-emitter optic designed to withstand a tremendous amount of abuse. The AMSx uses the same Shield footprint and is a hybrid design that can mount to a handgun or a standard Picatinny mount. This optic is also compatible with several different battery types. 
 

The AMSx is the largest and most durable of the Shield Sights line, still using the same RMSc footprint.
