Staccato has a beefed-up answer to those who liked the popular HD C4X 4-inch compensated platform in the form of the new steel-framed HD P4X 9mm.

With much the same features as the aluminum-framed C4X but with a 4140 DLC steel frame that absorbs recoil and improves shot-to-shot consistency, the new PX HD P4X hits the scales at 32.5 ounces. This is nearly a half-pound bump in heft from the 24.5-ounce HD C4X.

Plus, the HD P4X, which released on July 4, has a full-sized grip that pushes height about a half inch taller than the C4X. This bump in height allows the new pistol to run 18-shot Glock double-stack 9mm magazines, another improvement over its shorter aluminum-framed sister, which uses 15-shot G19 pattern mags.

Other standard features include ambidextrous surface controls with a dual-sided safety and slide stop, a reversible magazine catch, Glock G17/45-pattern magazine compatibility, and an active firing pin block for safe carry.

It runs Staccato’s HD HOST optic-mounting system. In its most basic package, it ships with an Ameriglo blacked-out front sight, while the nicer (but more expensive) Preferred and Premium package guns swap that out for a Trijicon Tritium front sight. Note the accessory rail, standard.

Staccato reps say the new gun is a direct response to customer feedback.

"Every Staccato product is built to elevate human performance, and the HD P4X is the clearest expression of that yet," said Paul Smith, Senior Vice President of Product at Staccato. "We engineered a hybrid full-size grip, 4” compensated pistol that delivers more control, more rounds and the kind of shootability the world's most elite professionals demand. This configuration was one of our most requested, and the result is the most shootable, reliable, mission-ready handgun we've ever built."

The Staccato HD P4X is will be available beginning July 13 in three configurations, with a starting MSRP of the Core package gun being $3,599, including two magazines. The nicer Preferred ($3,799) and Premium ($3,999) package guns both have Trijicon Tritium front sights, along with an HD Tactical Magwell, and ship with more magazines. The Premium package also has improved X-serrations on the slide.
