South Carolina-based American Tactical Inc just announced their new and improved German-made Schmeisser S60 magazine.

Constructed with what ATI lists as 2K polyamide fiberglass, the newest version of the S60 is an AR/M4 compatible 60-round magazine that has been updated from the Gen II S60. The new S60W now includes both a side window to visually check round count but also has a follower designed to hold open the bolt on the last round.

"Designed to shoot both .223 REM & 5.56X45MM, the Schmeisser S60 will give you an instant capacity upgrade over the standard AR mag at an affordable price for your AR carbine or pistol," said ATI in a statement.

When compared to a standard 30-round AR mag, the Schmeisser S60W is about 3.75 inches longer but, due to its design, only weighs about 5-ounces more unloaded, while offering twice the capacity. (Photo: Chris Eger/Guns.com)

With a push-button floorplate for easy cleaning and maintenance, the S60 series breaks down into seven components to include two stainless steel springs. In addition to AR platforms, it is billed to be compatible with the FN SCAR MK16, the SA80, HK416, and the M27.

Retail is $79.95. By comparison, this is about $50 less than the Magpul D60 drum and, unlike the D60, could fit into a larger range of mag carriers.

How do they work? We are currently in the process of field testing both the S60 Gen II and the S60W, so stay tuned for a more detailed review.
