New Hampshire-based Sig Sauer is continuing to upgrade classic P-series designs for 2022, with the latest being the P229 PRO.

Originally introduced in the early 1990s as a more compact companion to the P226, the P229 was always close to my heart and has gone on to become one of the most popular models in the series, at one time being the default handgun for non-FBI federal law enforcement. Never out of production, the gun has been improved over the years, adding an accessory rail, a better trigger, and better sights.

This week Sig continued that evolution with the P229 PRO.

Besides having a factory cut to accommodate micro red dots, the P229 PRO ships standard with X-RAY3 day/night sights. It is compatible with ROMEO1PRO, Delta Point Pro, and RMR red dot optics.

Double action/single action with a frame-mounted decocker and a P-SAIT style trigger, the P229 PRO carries black and gray Hogue G10 Piranha G-Mascus grips.

Rather than the legacy 13-round mags the P229 used, the new P229 PRO ships with a trio of flush-fitting 15+1 magazines unless where restricted by law. If behind the lines, you have to settle for 10s and a burning desire to reach out to lawmakers about correcting local restrictions to include standard-capacity magazines.

Sorry, no asking price to report.
