The 10th annual West Texas Shootout took place in Lubbock, Texas, on August 13, 2022. The event raised $205,000 to help traumatic event survivors.

A GOOD CAUSE

The West Texas Shootout is an annual clay shooting competition that draws people from all over the Texas Panhandle. Besides shooting, there's also good food, gun giveaways, and a live gun auction. The event raises money for The Inside Out Foundation, a non-profit based in Lubbock, Texas.

The foundation helps women, men, and children in West Texas and beyond who have been diagnosed with cancer or have been mistreated. They help them with wigs, prosthetics, skin products, and so much more. They heal them from "the inside out."

TEXANS LOVE TO SHOOT

The Inside Out Foundation has managed to grow the event by partnering with a local gun shop called Sharp Shooters, and a shooting facility called the Lubbock Shooting Complex. Both are owned by Charlie Blackwell, who has given his 100-percent support to the event since its inception.

GET INVOLVED

"It's really cool to see this group of shooters come out here to raise some money for a good cause," said Colt Blackwell, the sporting clays manager at Hub City Clays, part of the Lubbock Shooting Complex.

The event draws on the already large group of shooters who enjoy the Lubbock Shooting Complex on a regular basis. But it also introduces new shooters to the sport, as well as people who have never shot a gun before.

"It's more important than ever for firearms dealers and gun shops to get involved with the community because that's where you start changing culture within your community. And that's very important," said Izzy Musquiz, general manager of Sharp Shooters.

WIN-WIN SITUATION

"We couldn't do this without their support," said Alexis Arnold, co-founder of The Inside Out Foundation. Not only does she get 90 percent of the firearms raffled off during the event from Sharp Shooters, but they also help her with storage and making sure all transfers are done legally.

"Texans love to shoot. It's almost like a religion," said Arnold. No wonder the event is so popular. This year's shoot was their biggest yet, with over 200 shooters, and raised more money than ever before.
