SIG Sauer's optics division updated the design of its already popular Romeo 4 series 1x20mm red dots by using a more common battery system and ambi controls.
The new Romeo 4XT Pro follows in the footsteps of SIG's Romeo 4T and Romeo 4S closed red dots with the biggest change coming in the fact that the 4XT Pro uses a single AAA battery rather than the solar-powered/CR2032 battery backup of the 4S/4T. SIG says the expected lifespan of the AAA, using decent batteries, is in the 50,000-hour range. The dimensions (86mm long x 58mm wide x 64mm high) are almost the same as the standard Romeo 4T (84.7 x 49 x 67.8mm) with the new optic being just gently wider due to the larger battery tube.
Further changes come in the respect that the dot's power and illumination control has been moved to the top, "providing easy access with either hand while staying clear of chest rigs and plate carriers when slung," as noted by SIG. A dedicated night vision override switch, a dozen illumination settings (nine daytime, three night vision) with DARK technology, and MOTAC (motion sensing on/off) technology are standard.
The Romeo 4XT Pro is IPX8-rated for waterproof and fog proof performance, is MIL-STD-810 tested, and has an MSRP of $639.99 in plain black and $659.99 in FDE.
