With an eye-catching $999 suggested retail price, FN's newest black rifle was a hit at the NRA Annual Meetings in Indiana last week.

The new FN 15 Guardian runs a mid-length gas system, ships standard with a 16-inch 1:7 twist hybrid profile barrel, and includes a 15-inch free-floating handguard that is covered in M-LOK slots and Picatinny rail. It has a lot of mil-spec internals, as well as an A2 style flash hider, and uses FN’s custom 30-round magazine and synthetic furniture.

Shipping sans sights, the Guardian includes a continuous top Picatinny rail for optics. Meanwhile, the handguard carries two dozen M-LOK slots spread across the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions, to allow other accessories. (Photo: Guns.com)

Note the slick-sided upper does not have a forward assist – aka "jam enhancer" – but does retain a modified brass deflector. FN says the receiver format reduces snag points and cleaning time. (Photo: Guns.com)

The overall length is 32.1 to 35.5 inches, depending on which of the six positions the adjustable stock is in, while the weight is a light 6.6 pounds, unloaded.
