Israel Weapon Industries just picked up an approximately $2.9 million contract to supply more of the company's X95 Tavor rifles to the military.

The Israel Ministry of Defense earlier this week announced the contract for 2,800 additional IWI Micro Tavor variants. The rifles will be used by the IDF's elite Nahal, Golani, and Givat infantry brigades. The Tavor in 5.56 NATO has been in service with regular and reserve combat formations of the Israeli military since 2006.

The contract covers Micro Tavor variants with 15- and 16.5-inch barrels and will be fitted with M-1913 Picatinny rails capable of holding all the IDF's goodies, including IWI's 40mm grenade launcher, shown here. Chambered nominally in 5.56, the Micro Tavor can be reconfigured to 9x19, 5.45x39mm, and 300 BLK. (Photo: IWI)

Besides the Tavor, IWI is also a current supplier of the Negev light machine gun to the Israeli military and exports a variety of small arms, including the Galil Ace platform, the ARAD, Carmel, and DAN rifle systems, and the Masada pistol line. The company also produces the Uzi Pro and Jericho series.

In addition to its new U.S. facility, IWI plans to break ground on a new Israeli factory in Kiryat Gat in the coming months.
