New (to You): Taurus TS9 Striker-Fired 17+1 Round 9mm Pistol
A model formerly just available to military and police customers overseas is now being imported to the U.S. for sale on the commercial market.
Taurus quietly exhibited the new prototype striker-fired TS9 alongside the hammer-fired TH9 series at SHOT Show 2017, and while the TH9 has been available here in the States for a minute, the TS9 has been much more elusive. While the TS9 has seen a measure of success with various Latin American forces as well as won big contracts to become a primary sidearm of the Philippine National Police – a country with its own healthy domestic pistol manufacturer base – the pistol has been missing from Taurus USA's catalog.
Well, that has changed, at least for now.
The Taurus TS9 is a standard-sized pistol, very Glock 45 in dimension. This includes a 4-inch barrel, 7.25-inch overall length, and 5.64-inch height with a standard 17+1 9mm magazine capacity. (Photos: Taurus)
Features on the Taurus TS9 include a Picatinny accessory rail, four interchangeable backstraps to tailor the grip module for user comfort, an ambidextrous magazine release, and adjustable sights.
Taurus soft-launched the TS9 in 2017, and along with its 13+1 shot TSc Compact little brother, it has won several military and LE tenders overseas since then.
"Previously available only to international military and law enforcement customers, the TS9 has passed the rigorous NATO testing protocols," explained the company in a press release. "It’s the pistol of choice for Brazil’s most elite special operations units and serves law enforcement and military units across the world. For the first time, thanks to a law enforcement sales overrun, the TS9 brings its rugged durability and reliability to the U.S. market in limited quantities."
