Accuracy International Tapped for Border Patrol Sniper Rifle Contract
The Department of Homeland Security has awarded Accuracy International a contract of up to $5.5 million for new sniper rifles.
A version of the company's AT-X bolt-action rifle was selected for the Modular Precision Weapon Platform contract "to support the mission of officers and agents within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as well as other agencies within and outside of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security," which could include the Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Marshal Service.
The 47-page request for proposals issued in July for the MPWP rifle program was for a multi-caliber platform that offered both a longer and shorter barrel in both 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester. Included with the rifle would be all specialized field tools necessary for barrel exchange or chassis adjustments, a one-piece MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for optics, detachable five and 10-round magazines, an ARCA rail and adapter, sling, bipod, hard and soft carrying cases, cleaning kits, and manuals.
The sample rifles submitted for evaluation were assessed for safety, chassis adjustment, trigger weight/pull, precision grouping, velocity testing, ease of barrel exchange, stability, accuracy, recoil management, and ease and consistency in reloading.
