Springfield Armory is pouring on the colorways for 2024 when it comes to its popular Hellion series of bullpup 5.56mm NATO carbines.

The Hellion platform – an evolution of the proven HS Produkt-made VHS-2 rifle system of Croatia used in military and police service across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East – only hit American shores as a semi-automatic sporter version in early 2022. Since introduction, Springfield has expanded the line with both 18- and 20-inch barreled variants to complement the standard 16-inch model and now is upping the drip on the latter to include options in Desert FDE (HL916556F), OD Green (HL916556G), and Gray (HL916556Y) for the same price as the standard black.

Other than the colorways, the Hellions have the same features as the standard models, including the ability to use AR-pattern magazines, AR-pattern pistol grips, lots of M-LOK accessory slots in the handguard, and a half-dozen QD sling mounts. Additionally, the platform has fully ambidextrous controls – including the safety, charging handle, magazine release, and bolt release – and the ejection system can be swapped left or right without tools in minutes.

The MSRP across the 16-inch Hellion line, regardless of color, is $1,999. Springfield will available have these in state-compliant (low-cap mag) versions for restrictive locales.
