One of the biggest names in firearms is looking to pick up some of the biggest names in ammo making.
The Colt CZ Group has reportedly made a $30-per-share offer to purchase publicly traded Minnesota-based Vista Outdoor. While the Prague-based CZG has not commented on the offer, the news comes from Vista who advised it had "not made any determination with respect to the Colt CZ Proposal" but "will carefully review" it.
The move comes just three weeks after Vista announced it would sell its expansive ammo brands to the Czechoslovak Group, a different Prague-based holding company, formerly known as the Excalibur Group, that owns a number of Czech military armament firms, including Tatra, Atrak, and Retia, as well as a majority stake in Fiocchi ammunition. That deal was valued at $1.9 billion and set to close sometime in 2024 following review. Vista would then rebrand its remaining non-ammo business as Revelyst.
Vista said it will carefully review the "obligations under the existing merger agreement with CSG, in consultation with its financial and legal advisors," and remains committed to acting in the best interests of Vista Outdoor stockholders.
Vista, which trades on the NYSE under VSTO, closed at $26.76 per share on Nov. 24. Its ammo lines include CCI, Federal, Hevi, Remington, and Speer – some of which date back over a century. These are made across four factories in Minnesota and Arkansas and employ approximately 4,000 people.
CZG, besides CZ and Dan Wesson, acquired Colt and Colt Canada in 2021. The sale reportedly involved $220 million cash upfront and the issue of just over 1 million shares of common stock.
