This week on "Two Guys One Gun," the crew discusses the rifle that was designated as the “Right arm of the free world” – the FN FAL.

The FAL (Fusil Automatique Leger – French for Light Automatic Rifle) is a battle rifle chambered in 7.62 NATO. The rifle was one of the first magazine-fed rifles to be widely adopted, ending the era of fixed internal magazine firearms.

This iconic rifle was almost the United States’ standard issue infantry rifle, until we fumbled up the whole contract. Today we will discuss what could have been, how the U.S. ruined the FAL, and how the original FAL cartridge is ironically similar to the newest adoption of the U.S. Army in 2023.

There is much debate on the FAL, but there is no denying the success and reach that the platform had over the past 70 years. Serving in over 70 countries, the FAL is a battle-tested platform that went toe-to-toe in some of the most iconic conflicts of the 20th century. The design dates to the 1950s, while the rifle is still in service with several nations around the globe.

Today the rifle is a favorite among collectors, due to its design features and history. The boys discuss some of the debates over the rifle, the history, and ruffle some feathers over their opinions about U.S. Army acquisitions. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this discussion about the AK of the West.
