We made contact with Florida-based KUSA at a recent industry event and got the low down on the new products the company is bringing to market next year.
While at CANCON 2023 in Savannah, Georgia a few weeks ago, we stopped by the Kalash booth and ran into John Cason, KUSA's director of sales. He told us that the company wouldn't be in Vegas for the SHOT Show later this month, but he did have several sweet new models they had queued up for 2024.
KR101
John showed us a pre-production American-made AK101 sporter that, other than the suppressor, is bone stock more or less as they would ship.
Disregard the can, as it will ship with a standard AK100 series muzzle brake.
It includes the Kalash-pattern side receiver optics mount, correct selector, etc.
And of course, the side-folder stock.
KR102
KUSA has been promising a 5.56 NATO AK102 sporter for a minute and is spooling up the line to make it happen.
They had one on hand that looked great dressed up as a night fighter and, while it won't ship wearing all the same goodies, you get a good idea of what you can do with one.
The pre-production 5.56 NATO AK102, complete with a MAWL laser.
Note the ALG trigger, side folding stock, BCM foregrip, and goodies to include an Aimpoint Micro T-2 2MOA and magnifier
It was wearing a gently broken-in SureFire SOCOM 556 suppressor, for those curious.
"Micro 9"
Developed for an overseas military contract, KUSA had what is tentatively just called the "Micro 9" at the show. Now don't confuse that term with a micro compact 9mm pistol such as a P365 or Hellcat. This is a 5-inch barreled semi-auto KP-9 Vityaz clone rather than the standard 9.25-incher that the company intends to market as both a pistol (that can either use a triangle brace or be Form 1'd later should the user want) and as a factory SBR.
They accept the company's $29 in-house made double-feed, double-column, steel-lipped Vityaz-pattern mags.
Now THAT is not something you see every day.
Note the distinctive ventilated forend (M-LOK slots?) with an integral hand stop.
It was made up as an SBR with a triangle folder.
CANCON attendees had lots of fun with it, even sans sights.
John told us that commercial production of these will start as soon as the overseas contract is filled.
Sorry, pricing was not available.
Hybrid KR-103s
Wait, one of these things is not like the other...
Dubbed the KR-103WSF, or Wood Side Folder, KUSA is already pushing out a series of really neat designs that blend the more rustic look of the AKM with the more modern 103 family of rifles.
Still chambered in 7.62x39, these will come in red, walnut, and blonde.
The Triangle series also blends a combination of wood and synthetic materials, opting for a hybrid foregrip with a cheese grater top.
Of course, we will bring you more information on all of these as it comes throughout the year.
