Best known for its compact pocket pistols, Bersa Firearms is increasingly American and is now making 1911s in Georgia.
While at the recent IWA Outdoor Classic Show in Germany, we ran into Bersa at the American pavilion, of all places. That's because, while the parent company started in Argentina in 1958 and still makes lots of guns there, Bersa USA operates out of a new state-of-the-art facility in Kennesaw, Georgia.
And it is making John Browning's classic single-action Government Issue .45 ACP.
Dubbed the B1911, the six new Bersa models are full-size pistols with 5-inch barrels. Across the line, they feature 416 stainless steel construction and ship standard with a front Tritium night sight, an ambi safety, and VZ grips. They incorporate a flat mainspring housing, extended beavertail grip safety, forward slide serrations, and a skeletonized trigger.
