A salute to the old-school pocket revolvers from the days of Mike Hammer and Philip Marlowe, Georgia-based Heritage has gone double-action/single-action small-frame .38.
Heritage, the Taurus subsidiary best known for its affordable single-action rimfire pistols and carbines, has launched the Roscoe line. This comes almost a decade after Taurus sunset its popular Model 85 five-shot small-frame revolver line, upgrading it to the larger six-shot Model 856, and recalls the company's history during the old Bangor Punta days (1962-72ish), when it was a sister to S&W and they shared tech.
The series is chambered for .38 Special but rated for +P rounds, which means they can clock in for self-protection and aren't just meant to mine nostalgia.
We caught up with Mr. Roscoe at the Heritage booth last week during the 2024 NRA Annual Meetings in Dallas.
The cigar-box-worthy Roscoe looks right out of the mid-20th century, clad in a deep glossy finish, classic-style round wood grips, fixed sights, and a five-shot cylinder. (Photos: Don Summers/Guns.com)
Available with a 2 or 3-inch barrel, the Roscoe is DA/SA with a transfer bar safety.
There's a five-shot cylinder, which we imagine is probably in the J-frame speed loader pattern.
The 3-inch length has traditionally been a go-to for wheel gun aficionados, affording more accuracy and performance over a snub while still allowing almost magical levels of concealment.
The MSRP of the Roscoe is $363.99, a price that will probably be closer to the magical $299 when on sale.
Don't worry, sweetheart, we have one inbound via courier for review, so expect all the nitty gritty soon.
