Angstadt Arms Updates its Roller-Locked AR-9: Meet the MDP-9 Gen 2
North Carolina-based Angstadt Arms has long been a serious player in the small gun space, but the company's new roller-delayed blowback MDP-9 is something different.
The company, which had been tapped to compete in the Army's recent micro-sized sub-gun competition, introduced the original MDP-9 at SHOT Show a few years back. Set up to take Glock mags, the $2,599 Gen 1 gun ditched the straight-blowback format of the company's UDP-9 for a roller-delayed system that cuts out the need for a buffer tube and creates a softer shooting and more compact firearm – one that ran just 14 inches long and hit the scales at around 3.6 pounds.
The new MDP-9 variant features a revamped bolt carrier and roller-lock system that Angstadt says significantly reduces felt recoil, achieving the lowest in class muzzle rise (0.55 degrees, compared to a higher average of 3 degrees for a standard blowback AR9).
The new Angstadt MDP-9 Gen 2 retains the same 14-inch length and general specs of the first-gen models, reaching for a balance between size, weight, and power. (Photos: Angstadt Arms)
Other improvements to the MDP-9 Gen 2 are enhanced fire controls and the EMT-9 PCC nickel teflon trigger. Standard features include a detachable three-lug muzzle adapter, a newly designed low-profile hand stop, and a Radian Weapons Talon ambidextrous safety selector.
The MDP-9 Gen 2 comes in a variety of colors – Tactical Grey seen above – and is available in both pistol and factory SBR configurations (all NFA red tape applies).
That just looks like a bag full of fun there.
Price is less than the first generation MDP-9 with an MSRP of $2,475 for the base pistol, while complete uppers compatible with AR9 lowers will be offered for $1,655.
