Building out the company's line of double-stack 2011-style Prodigy-series pistols, Springfield Armory on Wednesday announced four new models in tactical peanut butter.

Debuted in late 2022, Springfield's optics-ready Prodigy line includes both standard 5-inch barreled models and more Commander-sized 4.25-inchers. Using a polymer grip module on a forged steel receiver, all models use a 17+1 flush-fit magazine while extended 20+1 and 26+1 capacity mags are on the table. Previously just available in an all-black livery, the guns moving forward will be offered in Coyote Brown as well.

The standard 5-inch model has a very 1911-familiar 8.5-inch overall length and an unloaded weight of 33 ounces.
The 4.25 variant runs 7.8 inches overall and weighs 32.5 ounces.
All models use AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a high serrated U-notch rear sight.

Besides the standard capacity variants, Springfield has reduced capacity models of both new Prodigy pistols for those trapped (for now) in Freedom-restricted states.

All four variants of the new 1911 DS Prodigy in Coyote Brown have an MSRP of $1,549. That's about $50 more than the ask on comparable black models.
