New Hampshire-based SIG Sauer now has a version of the MCX Spear that ships with Cerakote Gen II near-infrared coating.
The new MCX-Spear LT IR, initially available in 5.56 NATO, carries a 16-inch 1:7 twist barrel and is coated in Gen II NiR Cerakote. Cerakote developed Gen II NiR six years ago and it was originally only available to military and law enforcement customers.

What's the big deal with it Gen II NiR Cerakote? Well, it's a liquid ceramic coating that reduces visual infrared signature detection. In short, it helps turn down the gun's "noise" when observed through night vision.
"The IR Series delivers the performance that has allowed the MCX to receive the nod from Special Forces Groups from around the world and reliability that makes it a SIG Sauer," says the company.
Going past the coating, the MCX-Spear LT IR still has all the standard features seen on the rest of the line including an adjustable gas piston operating system, Tele-fold telescoping side-folding stock with a push-button hinge, an aluminum handguard with M-LOK slots, full-length top Pic rail, 1/2-28TPI threaded barrel, AR-pattern magazine well, and fully ambi surface controls. The platform is interchangeable with all MCX-LT barrels and handguards.
