  4. New: Ruger Marlin Trapper Series Model 1894 in .357 Magnum

Ruger has once more reached back into the old Marlin archives and reintroduced a once very popular carbine for 2024.  

Joining the rest of the Ruger-made Marlin Trapper series lineup, the new Model 1894 Trapper in .357 Magnum offers the lever gun fan a hard-wearing stainless "big loop" carbine in a common caliber. Using a threaded  (1/2x28 TPI) 16.1-inch barrel cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:16 twist, the newest Trapper (Model 70452 in Marlin's catalog) has an overall length of just 33.25 inches.

A big difference between this model from the company's SBL 1894 in the same caliber and barrel length is that it ditches the Picatinny top rail for more traditional Skinner sights.

Weight is 6.3 pounds. The underbarrel magazine tube holds eight rounds of .357 Mag or nine rounds of .38 Special.

Other standard features include Skinner sights with an adjustable rear peep aperture, a push-button manual safety, sling swivel posts, and a butt pad to help mitigate recoil when using stout magnum loads. 

 

The ask on the new Ruger Marlin 1894 Trapper in ..357 Mag is $1,499, a price generally lower at retail. 

When it comes to competition, there are lots of .357 cowboy guns on the market, but about the only other stainless big loop model that isn't made by Ruger is the Rossi R92 Carbine, which has a longer 20-inch barrel and is available for about $1K.
