Walther this week is bringing back some vaunted iconic pistol models with a modern twist as well as debuting several new models.
The announcement comes as part of the company's TEQ (Trigger, Ergonomics, and Quality) Fest, a national event celebrating the brand’s "commitment to performance and engaging customers across the country." βThe event will highlight a half dozen new handgun models.
The new guns include the compensated PDP PRO-X Parker Mountain Machine; the PDP F-Series PRO which includes an aluminum magwell and Dynamic Performance Trigger; a return of the original Police Pistol (PP) in both .380 and .32 ACP; the very Bond-like PPK/S SD in .32 ACP, which will be the first in the PPK family to ship with factory threaded barrels; the PDP PRO-E, and the WMP SD, which is the only factory threaded-barrel semi-auto .22 Magnum handgun on the market.
Let's get a closer look.
PDP PRO-X PMM
Walther collaborated with Parker Mountain Machine to make a custom compensator for the already top-notch PDP PRO. Using a 4-inch slide with a threaded barrel atop a 5-inch frame, the PMM compensator was designed to be seamlessly integrated rather than just an add-on.
"The PDP compensator underwent extensive in-house testing prior to production, guaranteeing end users the reliability and performance they can trust," said PMM owner Jarod Legsdin. "All of our compensators are tested in a Ransom Rest and measured with a digital inclinometer, tested with 115-grain and 124-grain factory-loaded ammo to ensure a broader range of ammo use while maintaining reliability, made from 7075 aluminum, and finished in type III class 2 hard coat anodize in black."
Besides the comp, the PDP PRO-X PMM has Walther’s Dynamic Performance Trigger, an aluminum magwell and base pads, and three 20-round mags.
It has an MSRP of $999.
PDP F-Series PRO
The optics-ready Walther Performance Duty Pistol (PDP) F-Series PRO is equipped with the company's F-series Dynamic Performance Trigger, advanced ergonomics to include a reduced grip circumference and a more natural grip angle, and an aluminum magwell and basepads. It will be offered in both a 4-inch and 3.5-inch barrel.
Shipping with three 18-round magazines, the ask on these will be $899.
Welcome Back, PP
While Walther dates back to the 1880s, it is perhaps the Police Pistol (Polizeipistole), which wasn't introduced until 1929, that made the company iconic. With its slightly smaller PPK little brother surpassing it in popularity over the years, the old-school PP was given the hard goodbye in 2000 but now the company is bringing the original back to the lineup in a move that is sure to grab the attention of collectors.
While continuing the classic lines of the Weimar-era gun, the new version utilizes modern production and quality control techniques while featuring upgraded materials and finishes to ensure durability and reliability.
"This new version of the PP honors its classic design while incorporating modern advancements that make it a truly exceptional firearm for today’s shooters," said Rob McCanna, President and CEO of Walther Arms.
The MSRP on the reborn Walther PP line is $969, regardless of caliber or finish.
PPK/S SD
In something very cool, Walther will be offering a threaded barrel version of the PPK/S in .32 ACP. For those keeping up at home, it was way back in 1965's "Thunderball" that Sean Connery's James Bond first appeared on-screen with a hushed PPK, and it's taken this long for Walther to scratch the itch. While the company's rimfire version was readily convertible with a threaded muzzle attachment, getting centerfire PP/PPK be-quieted has always been a pain so this is a cool offering, especially for the "shaken, not stirred" fans.
PDP PRO-E
The optics-ready Walther PDP PRO-E is a new 9mm pistol that is a little more feature-rich than the more standard variants and includes a polymer flat-faced trigger and an aluminum magwell, while the 20-round magazines use polymer mag extensions. It will be offered in both 4-inch and 4.5-inch barreled variants.
"The PDP Pro-E is our response to the demand for a firearm that bridges the gap between the standard PDP and our high-performance PDP Pro SD," said Jens Krogh, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development at Walther Arms. "It's the ultimate expression of what we at Walther strive to deliver – precision, versatility, and unmatched handling, all packed into one dynamic firearm. The Pro-E elevates the shooting experience and showcases Walther’s dedication to creating cutting-edge firearms for professionals and enthusiasts alike."
The MSRP on the Walther PDP Pro-E models is $779.
WMP SD
Building on the its Walther Magnum Pistol – so named as it is chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum – the new WMP SD is billed by the company as the first factory semi-auto .22 WMR option with a threaded barrel (1/2-28TPI) for suppressor use. Optics-ready, it ships with two 15-round magazines and two MRD adapter plates.
The MSRP on the WMP SD is $599.
