Illinois-based Springfield Armory on Tuesday introduced a 4.5-inch barreled version of its popular new Echelon handgun, complete with an integral compensator.
The new Echelon 4.5F Comp has a single port on the top of the hammer-forged slide and barrel that helps redirect gas to curb recoil and muzzle flip, allowing faster follow-up shots and shorter split times.
The front sight is positioned behind the comp, which shortens the sight radius slightly but preserves an uninterrupted sight picture. (Photos: Springfield Armory)
The pistol keeps all the standard Echelon features such as the modular serialized fire control unit – Central Operating Group in Springfield's parlance – Tritium U-notch sights, and a pin-based Variable Interface System that allows direct mounting of a wide range of micro red/green dots.
The overall length of the new Echelon 4.5F Comp is 8 inches, with a ported 4.5-inch barrel. Unloaded weight is 23.9 ounces.
Shipped with both a 17-round flush-fit and a 20-round extended magazine, the Echelon 4.5F Comp stands between 5.5 and 6.5 inches in height depending on which one is inserted. For restricted locales "behind the lines" (remember to vote!), 15-and 10-round versions are also offered.
"The Echelon was designed to offer a fresh take on the duty-style 9mm pistol with a host of modular and innovative features," said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s VP of Marketing. "Now with the Echelon Comp, shooters have a new option that combines advanced performance with duty-grade durability."
Shipped with two mags and a Springfield Armory-branded zipper bag, the MSRP of the new Echelon 4.5F Comp is $749.
