Springfield Armory on Tuesday announced an updated third-generation XD model that includes better ergonomics, an optics cut, and a 16+1 flush-fit capacity – with an ask of just $325.

The XD platform dates back to the old HS 2000 and has been steadily improved over the past 25 years with the Croatian manufacturer, HS Produkt, working directly with Springfield to develop the follow-on Hellcat micro-compact 9mm line and the modular Echelon series.

Showing the XD still has some life left in it, the new Mod.3 OSP (Optical Sight Pistol in Springfield's naming convention) looks like a legit update, especially when the price point is considered.

Besides an optics cut that accepts RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, and Docter footprints via adapter plates, the XD Mod.3 has steel sights – including a high-visibility red fiber-optic front sight paired with a white dot rear sight – a redesigned flatter-faced trigger, and an accessory rail. Ergos have been improved with a high undercut under the trigger guard, a raised "memory bump" on the passive beavertail grip safety, and aggressive texturing.

Weight is 27 ounces, unloaded, while height is 5.5 inches. Note the front and rear slide serrations.
Standard features include steel sights, a factory-milled optics cut, a passive grip safety, and a classic all-black livery.

Supplied with a single 16+1 mag (or 10+1 in restricted states), the new Springfield Armory XD Mod.3 OSP has an MSRP of $325, which will probably dip below $299 at retail.

"The new XD Mod.3 offers shooters a modern and enhanced take on this proven 9mm pistol platform," said Steve Kramer, Springfield's VP of Marketing. "With optics capability, improved ergonomics, and a very impressive price point, this 9mm deserves a very close look."
