Ruger has unveiled several new .22 LR rifle models for 2025 including a trio of 10/22s that ship with barrels featuring tensioned carbon fiber sleeves.
Offering a couple of different tiers to the new release, the entry-level variant – which is now cataloged as the lightest 10/22 in Ruger's line – hits the scales at just 3.5 pounds due to its CF-sleeved cold hammer-forged tensioned barrel and synthetic Magpul MOE X-22 stock.
The new Model 31220 Ruger 10/22 has a 16.1-inch stainless-steel barrel tensioned in a carbon fiber sleeve and a Magpul stock that carries a textured white speckle pattern. The stock has M-LOK slots at the 6 o'clock position, ideal for use with bipods, along with integral sling loops on the toe and forend for use with locking swivels. (Photos: Ruger)
Weight is 3.5 pounds, while the overall length is 34.1 inches and the length of pull is a compact 13.5 inches. Note the 1/2x28 TPI threaded muzzle for suppressors and accessories as well as a factory-installed one-piece aluminum scope rail. There is a cross-bolt safety.
Shipping with a standard flush-fit detachable 10-round rotary magazine, the newest Ruger 10/22 has an MSRP of $649.
Guns.com has one of these in-bound for testing and evaluation, so expect a review in a few weeks.
Grey Birch 10/22 Competition Models
Also new, courtesy of Ruger's Custom Shop, is a pair of 10/22 Competition rifles that sport tensioned barrels with carbon fiber sleeves fitted into a Grey Birch chassis. Featuring a BX trigger, they have identical features with one (Model 31227) for right-handed shooters and the other (Model 31230) for southpaws.
The Grey Birch chassis is adjustable for length of pull and comb height and folds for easy transport. Note the ambi sling QD points. The 10-inch forend features M-LOK slots and has an Arca-Swiss rail under the forend. The CNC-machined 6061-T6511 receiver carries a 30-MOA Picatinny top rail. Model 31227 for right-handed users seen at the bottom, left-hand friendly Model 31230 at top.
The free-floating cold hammer-forged barrel is tensioned in a carbon fiber sleeve and features a 1/2x28 TPI threaded muzzle. The chassis includes a dual bedding system that incorporates a second bedding lug, keeping it rock solid. Meanwhile, the match bolt is heat-treated and nitrided CNC-machined. Weight is 4.2 pounds and overall length is 36.8 inches.
The new Ruger 10/22s Comp models with carbon fiber-sleeved barrels and Grey Birch chassis systems have an MSRP of $1,129. Being Ruger Custom Shop models, they ship in a hard case with all sorts of goodies.
