Legendary shotgun maker Mossberg has added a new rotary style safety selector – which will be more instinctive to those used to AR platforms – to four new models for 2025.

Besides the new style of safety, which replaces the company's standard centerline receiver tang safety (and could obscure the user's sight picture on occasion), the new models also have a compact forend and an integrated 18.5-inch barrel/single piece heat shield combination. Meant for tactical and defense use, the new 590Rs will include both traditional tube-fed and detachable box magazine-fed (590RM) variants at launch.

The standard Mossberg 590R
The standard Mossberg 590R in 12-gauge with a 3-inch chamber includes an 18.5-inch barrel with an integrated heat shield, a five-position adjustable stock with interchangeable recoil pad, MOE pistol grip, Picatinny rail top rail, flat profile trigger, and a rotary safety selector. It will come in two models, with either an AccuChoke (SKU 50762) barrel with Magpul MBUS 3 sights, or a cylinder bore barrel (50761) with a Stand-Off muzzle device. It has a 6+1 capacity magazine tube. MSRP is $1,085.
The standard Mossberg 590RM
The Mossberg 590RM in 12-gauge with a 2.75-inch chamber has the same basic features as the standard 590R but a 10-round detachable box magazine instead of an underbarrel tube. As with the 590R, it will be sold in both an AccuChoke barrel (SKU 50213) or an 18.5-inch Stand-Off, cylinder bore barrel (50718). MSRP is $1,190.

We'll be sure to check these out at SHOT Show later this month.
