Leupold is one of my favorite scope manufacturers because the company builds everything in America and builds it well. New for 2025 is Leupold’s new VX-6HD Gen 2 line of second focal plane hunting scopes.

New Features

The VX-6HD Gen 2 scopes contain the same high-end Professional Grade Optical glass found in all Leupold’s top-tier scopes. It boasts superior light transmission, resolution, and clarity. In addition, the Guardian lens coating manages glare and sheds dirt, dust, and debris. It looks nice, too.

Leupold also added increased elevation adjustments and a competition-grade turret adjustment. The clicks are tactile and easy to dial to your specific hold without over-dialing.

The zero-lock feature is also similar to other high-end Leupold scopes. When the turret is returned to the zero position, it locks in place. It can only be unlocked by pushing the button and dialing the turret. This zero-lock is present on both the elevation and windage turrets.

The new CDS dial is innovative and user-friendly.

My favorite feature is the new turret cap. It uses the Custom Dial System with Speed Set Dial Technology (SZL2). No longer will you have to deal with tiny Allen wrenches and impossible-to-see set screws. The dial can be zeroed with the flip of a switch. I love that.

More Reticle Options

In addition to the new reticle Leupold is also now offering a built-in throw lever.

The VX-6HD Gen 2 family also includes multiple illuminated reticle options. The illumination is push-button operated and includes a digital leveling feature. If the rifle is canted more than 1 degree, the reticle will blink. The reticle needs to be turned on, though – but don’t worry about that draining your battery. The shake-awake technology will turn it off after 5 minutes and instantly turn it back on if the scope is disturbed.

Finally, there is an integrated throw level on the magnification ring and a fast focus diopter.

The Lineup

Multiple configurations are dropping with the release.
