SilencerCo Shows off Trio of Exciting New Suppressors for 2025
Utah's SilencerCo is one of the biggest players in thequiet game, and we made sure to stop in at its booth at SHOT Show to check out what's new.
Ryan Stratton gave us the lowdown on the stubby Spectre 9K – which is great for sub guns and pistols – the .30-caliber Scythe STM, which is a more affordable steel version of its ultra-lightweight Scythe-Ti, and the new fully welded S98.
Spectre 9K
A shorter version of the Spectre 9 originally developed for military users, the 9K is now available on the commercial market. Full-auto rated and designed for pistols and sub guns (it has the ability to accommodate .300 BLK subsonic), it offers sound suppression in a sleek, minimalist package.
The Spectre 9K is a tiny can for what it offers, running just 3.69 inches long. The diameter is 1.37 inches. (Photos and Video: Ben Philippi/Guns.com)
We used a few Spectre 9Ks extensively on some pre-production Zev/Magpul FDPs last fall in Wyoming.
Made of Grades 5 and 9 titanium, it is light, at just 3.17 ounces. It accepts ASR devices, Alpha direct thread, and three-lug QD accessories.
It ships with a Spectre 9 tool, and Spectre 9 piston housing, with an MSRP of $879.
Scythe STM
SiCo introduced the Scythe-Ti in 2023, and it was the suppressor maker's first titanium can at the time. The new Scythe STM, made of steel, is heavier and, due to its durability, is intended for harder-use applications and is full-auto rated.
Rated to handle everything from .223/5.56 NATO to .300 RUM, it has no barrel length restrictions.
The "M" in the Scythe STM stands for "Modular," and it has two stacks. With one baffle shorter than the 6.16-inch Scythe-Ti in its short 5.1-inch configuration, it is two baffles longer in its long 6.9-inch configuration for maximum sound suppression. Weight ranges from 10.4 to 14.7 ounces depending on configuration.
It ships with a new radial tool, a Bravo tool, a basic tool, a 5/8x24 titanium direct thread mount, and a .30-cal aluminum single-port anchor brake.
Whereas the titanium Scythe-Ti is naturally lighter (7.3 ounces with a single-point anchor brake installed), it also has an MSRP of $1,174. Compare this to the more rugged Scythe STM has an ask of $939 – but you get that modularity as a bonus.
The S98
Built from grade 5 titanium and 17-4 stainless steel, the S98 is made specifically for 9mm handguns only. That specialization helps it maximize sound elimination.
It’s lightweight at just 7 ounces and comes in at a mere 5.54 inches long. That makes it the shortest and lightest polygonal-shaped suppressor in its class.
The fully welded design almost totally eliminates that first-round “pop” noise that comes with many other suppressors. The anodized finish gives it a raw, minimalist look.
The S98 comes with a new quick-detach mounting system that makes timing the suppressor as easy as pressing a button.
