New: Miller Precision Linkless Barrel Ranger 9 Double Stack 1911s
Florida-based Miller Precision Firearms brought its new Ranger 9 series of pistols that have a host of features you don't normally see in double-stack 1911s.
We caught up with Houston Miller at SHOT Show recently to find out more about his interesting new handguns.
A common facet of 1911s going back to John Browning is the swinging link barrel system, – which even Browning himself later ditched just a decade later on the Hi-Power. MPM has evolved to a linkless format while also uses an external extractor and longer internal rails. This simplifies the design and makes barrel swaps easier.
The Ranger 9 uses fully ambidextrous controls, has multiple size options (Full-Size 5-inch, 4.4-inch Compact, and 4-inch Sub Compact, 5-inch Comp), double-stack 2011-pattern magazines, and a tunable easy-adjust trigger system.
Controls include both ambi mag releases and a slide stop/release. (Photos & Video: Ben Philippi/Guns.com)
The company offers eight different billet grip modules that can interchange with Staccato and Prodigy pistols and lots of competition accessories such as magwells, stationary beavertails, mag bases, and retainers.
MPF will also offer compensated variants.
Note the external extractor.
MPF and by extension its sister company, Miller Precision USA, have been around since 2018 and have long been involved in the firearms industry, doing CNC work for Serbu Firearms in nearby Tampa. The companies are partnered to launch the new Serbu SU-15 modular AR bufferless upper system later this year.
As far as the price on the Ranger 9 line, it starts at $3,749 but can be configured for any mission with optional services including Glock sight compatibility, barrel porting, threaded barrels, multiple trigger shape and color options, grip size texture and shape options, grip safeties, different magazine compatibility, slide releases, and optics options as well.
