Popular Croatian gunmaker HS Produkt has been showing off a contract-winning new roller-delayed pistol-caliber beauty overseas.
As many know, HS Produkt has partnered with Springfield Armory for nearly 25 years to import gently updated versions of its handguns and rifles to the U.S. under the XD, Hellcat, Echelon, and Hellion banners.
The company's Kuna (Croatian for "Marten," the national animal of that country) sub-gun first surfaced last October when it beat the top-shelf B&T APC40 and Steyr M40 for a contract with the PMESP, the Sao Paulo Military Police – the largest police force in Brazil.
The Kuna being sent to the hard-charging MP force is chambered in .40 S&W and is reportedly being provided alongside the Echelon series handguns and Hellion 5.56 rifles as a triad of new platforms.
The Kuna then appeared at the COP Internacional trade show in Sao Paulo and was profiled in a video from Latin American gun-tuber Samuel Count that has since received over 2.5 million views.
While the Kuna is not listed on HS Produkt's website or catalog just yet, it has continued to surface overseas, being spotted at EnforceTac in Germany this week.
James Reeves got the lowdown on the gun, which is fully ambidextrous, features low-profile side-folding charging handles, a tri-lug barrel, built-in flip-up iron sights, and an M-LOK handguard with a full-length top Pic rail. Currently in .40 and 9mm, it may someday arrive in 10mm as well – being something the UMP never was.
So, is it coming to America? Possibly. Probably. When? Maybe as soon as the NRA Annual Meeting in April. Maybe.
Will it be in the same form shown in Germany and Brazil? Most likely not.
Are people going to love it anyway? For sure.
