When it comes to AR-15s, it seems like we’ve seen it all over the last decade. New advancements come out every year, and honestly, I think we are a bit spoiled. The level of modularity is almost unbelievable compared to where we were in the early 2000s and 2010s.
The Scy by Reap Weaponries is the definition of a cutting-edge advancement in the AR-15 realm. Fifteen years ago, it was rare to even see a bullpup, but now you can convert an AR into a bullpup. Check it out.
Meet the Scy
Reap Weaponries designed the Scy chassis to connect an AR-15 upper receiver to an AR-15 lower in the form of a bullpup. In my opinion, it is ideal to use a bufferless upper like a PSA JAKL or the Brownell’s BRN-180 (as we have with this Scy build).

This isn’t strictly necessary, though. You can use a bufferless BCG instead of a traditional bolt carrier group or even use a traditional BCG with a buffer tube for a longer length of pull. Modularity is the buzz word these days, and the Scy has that in spades.

The Scy uses a transfer bar to link the trigger to whatever trigger you want to install in your AR.
To me, the trigger sets the Scy apart from its competition (all bullpups from industry-leading brands). Bullpups are not known for nice triggers; in fact, they are known for having quite awful triggers. Even though I’m a bullpup fanboy, there’s no denying that bullpup triggers can’t hold a candle to a nice Geissele or other name-brand offerings. That’s where things get interesting with the Scy.
The Trigger
The Scy allows the user to add whatever trigger they like. Instead of being limited to a manufacturer mil-spec style trigger, or maybe one or two aftermarket options that are – let’s face it – ineffective or overpriced, any AR-15 trigger is on the table as an option.
This is the best trigger of any bullpup I've shot, and I make sure to shoot every bullpup I can get my hands on.
Simply install the trigger in the lower receiver, just like any other AR trigger job. Then link it to the Scy’s transfer bar, which leads to a very light and crisp – with almost no creep – straight trigger. Once installed, the results are honestly rather unbelievable.
The AR-15 lower is tucked into the Scy chassis.
As mentioned, I am a bullpup fanboy. I tested the MDRX when it first came out. I own an FS2000, Tavor 7, X95, and a Steyr AUG. I’ve shot the KSG, RDB, and even a GM6 Lynx, so when I say I like bullpups, that may be an understatement. Back to the point, though, when I first felt the installed 3-pound Velocity brand trigger in the Scy chassis, I was legitimately taken aback.
This build is set up with a quad-stack magazine, but the Scy can use any standard AR mag.
When talking about bullpup triggers, most people (me included), will say, “This is a nice trigger – for a bullpup.” That isn’t what we are dealing with here. With the final installation, my thoughts were, “This is a great trigger. PERIOD!”
Summary
If you like bullpups and are looking to take your bullpup relationship to the next level, the Scy is the way to go. This has the best bullpup trigger I have ever felt. If you’re a bullpup fanatic like me, I would seriously consider getting a Reap Weaponries Scy chassis. It’s realistically more affordable than a high-end bullpup, and the results are next level.
