Outlier’s ‘BackDraft’ Carbon-Fiber Barrel Does What? With a Free Suppressor?
Outlier USA’s new patented BackDraft Barrel and BackDraft Suppressor design won the "Best Innovation" product award at SHOT Show 2025, and there’s a darn good reason why. The carbon-fiber BackDraft Barrel and BackDraft Suppressor offer game-changing thermal signature reduction and heat minimization.
Essentially, the BackDraft Barrel has a carbon-fiber sleeve wrapped around a barrel that is actually shaped like a triangle inside. The steel inner barrel has three points of contact with the carbon-fiber wrap. The barrel sports beveled chamfer lines, which allow some of the gas that is normally forced out the end to flow rearward and back between the steel barrel and the carbon fiber.
The new flow of gas back into the barrel provides a wider area for dissipating the heat, which translates into a cooler and faster-cooling barrel overall. (Photo: Samantha Mursan/Guns.com)
Founded by Navy SEALs, Outlier has kept a close eye on the rapid technological changes on the modern battlefield, especially in the age of mass drone warfare, thermal optics, and precision munitions.
Excessive heat signatures are the new killer in tech-dominated war zones. Outlier’s solution uses a carbon-fiber barrel design that effectively reduces the heating of the suppressor by 50 percent. Just as importantly, it also chops cooling times by 50 percent, which is a potential lifesaver for individual soldiers.
In a comparison to some competitor designs, the BackDraft Barrel and BackDraft Suppressor saw not only far less heat retention but also significantly faster cooling. (Photo: Samantha Mursan/Guns.com)
In other words, while other barrels and suppressors are still capable of burning your hands and glowing like the moon on a cloudless night, the BackDraft system is already safe to touch. (Photo: Samantha Mursan/Guns.com)
Beyond the battlefield, the barrel and suppressor combo is built for precision in rough environments that challenge competitive shooters and hunters alike. That makes it a unique solution for those looking to snag a quick-cooling, carbon-fiber barrel that’s also built to run with quiet cans and shoot with precision at long ranges.
In fact, a recent peek at Outlier’s website revealed that with “every purchase of a BackDraft Barrel, you'll receive a FREE Outlier BackDraft Suppressor,” which is a pretty sick deal all on its own. That’s on top of the heat resistance and weight reduction inherent in the carbon-fiber design.
Barrel options run 20 or 26 inches, with Sub-MOA performance guaranteed at an MSRP price of $599.99. Again, that includes the suppressor. Threading is set at 5/8x24 TPI and is HUB ready (BackDraft HUB compatible).
