Sporting double the capacity of its well-liked Micro 1911 platform, Kimber's new Covert Double Stack 9mm family has a couple of new members.

Breaking cover last October, the CDS9s retain what people liked about the old Micro 9s – the slim and compact profile of these all-metal hammer-fired pistols – but with more capacity and better ergonomics. Hallmarks of the design when introduced were aluminum alloy frames, stainless-steel slides with a direct-mount RMSc optic footprint, accessory rails for lights or lasers, and options for double-stack magazines with 10, 13, or 15-round capacities.

The new CDS9 Classic guns are a bit more "no frills," keeping most features but in a refined profile without the accessory rail and with an option for a more traditional slide without an optics cut. This still leaves a great gun, but one at a more achievable $865 (optics ready, two-tone) or $795 (no optics, dark gray finish) entry point than the four-figured MSRP of the rest of the CDS9 line. Both have a 6.2-inch overall length due to a 3.18-inch barrel, a svelte 1-inch width, and a weight of 21.44 inches.

Sporting ambi controls and a direct-mount RMSc optic footprint, it has a TAG fiber lock front sight.
The dark gray CDS9 Classic carries a KimPro finish on both slide and frame. With a traditional slide sans optics cut, it ships with TruGlo tritium sights with an orange front and white rear.

Both models ship range-ready in a Kimber-branded range bag.

Dave Blanton over at the Humble Marksman got his hands on one of these before launch and has a full review below. Dave has a well-earned reputation for giving it to you straight, albeit with the occasional dad joke.
