Taurus is swinging for the rafters when it comes to a modern carry revolver with its new Model 66 Combat.

It is often said by revolver aficionados (this writer included) that the 3-inch medium framed revolver is the perfect balance between usefulness and concealability when it comes to an EDC wheel gun. Taurus is leaning into this with the new 66 Combat.

Based on the company's tried and true Model 66, which dates back to the early 1980s and at the time was a near identical copy of the S&W Model 19, the new 66 Combat runs a 3-inch barrel, something Taurus had discontinued in the model back in 1992. Further, this matte stainless beauty is optics-ready with a Shield RMSC footprint, runs seven rounds in a chamfered unfluted cylinder, has a tuned DAO trigger, and a removable HiViz fiber-optic front sight.

The overall length is 8.4 inches, and the weight, probably because it is an all-steel gun except for the Hogue rubber grips, is 36.5 ounces.

Each 66 Combat is drilled and tapped to accept an optics plate, which is sold separately. This plate can host optics that utilize the Shield RMSC footprint. Note the fiber-optic front sight and "French border" barrel profile. The 66 Combat also has a transfer bar safety.

"The Taurus 66 Combat was crafted with input from serious revolver shooters, trainers, and end users," says the company. "It is the definitive statement on what makes a revolver good and would be an excellent choice for concealed carry and home defense models, making it versatile and user-friendly for experienced and new users alike."

The MSRP on the new Taurus 66 Combat is $972.99.
