New: Taurus TX9 Modular Optics-Ready Handgun Series
Upping the ante on its fan-favorite TX22 platform, Taurus has the new TX9 pistol in 9mm with a serialized modular chassis that enables users to quickly swap frame sizes.
The new striker-fired TX9 will be available at launch in full-size (4.5-inch barrel), compact (4-inch), and subcompact (3.4-inch) variants and in both standard (17, 15, and 13-round flush-fit magazines) and low-capacity (10-round) formats. All are optics-ready using the company's TORO plate system, ship with "industry-standard" (Glock-pattern) steel dovetailed sights, have a trigger safety lever, use a trio of included adjustable backstraps, and have accessory rails. Other features include an ambi slide catch and a reversible magazine release.
Importantly, the chassis system, similar to what SIG does with the P365 and P320, allows the user to buy one gun and move the serialized fire control unit across any number of different grip frame modules. The sweetest news: they have an MSRP across the board of $499.99, which translates to a street price closer to $450 (or less).
The Taurus TX9 Full Size. It has a 4.5-inch barrel and uses 17+1 round magazines. The empty weight is 35 ounces.
The Taurus TX9 Compact. It runs a 4-inch barrel and uses flush-fit 15-round mags. Weight is 23.7 ounces, unloaded.
The Taurus TX9 Subcompact. Using a 3.4-inch barrel, it runs 13+1 round mags. Weight is 21.7 ounces, unloaded.
All TX9s ship with two Mec-Gar magazines and are cross-compatible inside the family. The bad news is that the optics plates aren't included and ship separately. The guns are a Brazil-U.S. hybrid, with the parts largely made in Brazil then shipped to the company's factory in Bainbridge, Georgia, for final assembly and testing.
