Barrett has a new compact version of the MRAD and an old favorite AR-10 back on the production line for 2026. Guns.com caught up with the company reps at SHOT Show 2026 to get the scoop.

MRAD Covert

The new MRAD Covert rifle is a turnkey, shrunken-down MRAD rifle made to fit in a backpack for clandestine operations. If you’re not familiar, the MRAD (or Multi-role Adaptive Design) is Barrett’s modular bolt-action sniper rifle. It is used by several different militaries, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corp, Norway, Israel, South Korea, and Ukraine.

With the Covert, you get all the accuracy and reliability of a MRAD in a package that breaks down to under 20 inches long and fits easily in the included Eberlestock Fade Adapt backpack. This is possible because of the 17-inch quick-detach barrel and a shortened rail. The receiver section is only 19.25 inches long and 11.5 inches high when folded. The overall weight of the base rifle is 12 pounds.

At launch, the Covert is chambered in either .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor. Additional features include an Atlas bipod, M4-compatible grip, fully adjustable stock, and two-stage adjustable trigger.

REC10

While the REC10 is not totally new, it is being brought back after being discontinued for a few years. The REC10 is an optimized large-pattern AR-10 designed as a do-it-all .308 battle rifle. It uses a direct impingement operating system with a gas system optimized for suppressed and unsuppressed fire. The 16-inch barrel version weighs 9 pounds, and there is also a 20-inch model that weighs a little more.

I got a chance to demo the rifle and was impressed. In addition to being very accurate with an accuracy guarantee, it is also soft-shooting compared to other .308 battle rifles. The tuned gas system produces a modified recoil impulse that feels lighter to the shooter. It’s also easy to shoot because of the fantastic TriggerTech trigger.

Here are the basic specs for the 16-inch REC 10, which is shipping now:

  • Caliber: .308 Win
  • Operation: Direct impingement, semi-automatic
  • Barrel Length: 16 inches
  • Twist Rate: 1:10
  • Overall Length: 34.5 inches
  • Weight: 9 pounds
  • Magazine Capacity: 20
