Some things are changing at Mossberg, while others stay the same. The brand known for its value-priced hunting firearms is moving in different, more tactical directions, given what we saw at its booth at SHOT Show.
990 SPX Magpul
Though no stranger to tactical markets, the 2026 focus appears heavily operator-based. The new 990 SPX Magpul delivers a gas-driven, semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun with tactical components. There’s an optics-ready receiver for direct mounting microdots, with adapter plates included for all the major players.
The Magpul SGA stock has removable spacers for adjusting LOP.
An ergonomically designed forend shows off a heat shield, M-LOK slots, and QD ports. Magpul’s SGA stock offers adjustable LOP and spacers, plus additional QD ports. Oversized controls, including a safety and bolt release button, allow for quick-empty unloading. Mossberg is showing two variants at launch: a standard 18.5-inch barrel with a 7+1 capacity, and a Class 3 (NFA) version with a 14.75-inch barrel and 5+1 round tube. MSRP on both is set at $1,309.
990 AfterShock SPX-Cerakote
Mossberg adds another option to the beasty line of Aftershock shorties with the 990 SPX-Cerakote. The 12-gauge, gas-driven newbie leans tactical and is now optics ready, coming with three adapter plates for RMSc optics. It’s just as compact as its cohorts with a 14.75-inch barrel.
The 990 SPX-Cerakote is a sharp-looking FDE number.
There’s a redesigned forend with an integrated heat shield, multiple M-LOK slots, and QD ports. The extended magazine tube also offers M-LOK slots, and there’s a front fiber-optic sight protected by low-profile wings. Both the barrel and receiver are Cerakoted in Flat Dark Earth, and the combo looks sharp in person.
590R & 590RM Chisel
Mossberg has long been a leader in the reliable, affordable pump action game. Over the last few years, the company been moving into the Rotary Safety Selector series, so denoted by the “R.” The “RM” then pairs that rotary safety with the magazine-fed system, giving shooters several choices.
The 590R Chisel stock is new for 2026.
What’s new for 2026, though, is the Chisel factor added to both the 590R and 590RM. The Chisel folding stock allows the adjustable LOP stock to be folded completely along the reverse side of the receiver.
There’s also a heat shield integrated with the barrel, Magpul MBUS-3 adjustable sights, an enlarged beveled loading port, and flat trigger. A top Picatinny rail is ready for optics, while the eight-position stock offers an interchangeable recoil pad, two QD ports, and an MOE+ pistol grip.
The Chisel stock folds to the side for compact transport or storage.
There’s a standard 590R Chisel with an 18.5-inch barrel and 6+1 capacity, as well as the Class 3 (NFA) 590RM Chisel with its 11.50inch barrel and 10+1 round dropbox magazine capacity. The 590R Chisel retails at $1,330 and the NFA 590RM at $1,435.
International Silver Reserve Eventide Adds .410 Bore
In a downsized move for turkey hunters, Mossberg is adding a baby bore variant to its over-under family of Silver Reserve Eventide Turkey shotguns. The camouflaged lightweight sees full Mossy Oak Greenleaf coverage, 20-inch barrels, and a set of three chokes including the key extended extra full turkey.
We've had good luck with the 38-gauge Eventide Turkey, and now there's a .410 bore variant.
The 3-inch chambered .410 joins an existing lineup of Eventide Turkey O/U’s in all the major gauges. We hunted extensively with the 28-gauge variant, and long story short, it’s a turkey’s worst nightmare and hunter’s best friend. For those who like the platform but want something not so game-specific, Mossberg will be offering an all-black Eventide 410 with 28-inch barrels.
Maverick SA
The Maverick SA comes in a black synthetic or a classic walnut finish.
Previously dominated by pump actions, the budget Maverick now goes SA with an all-purpose semi-automatic shotgun as part of Mossberg’s International line. The 12-gauge gas guns can be had with either classic walnut or black synthetic furniture. They come with a front fiber-optic sight, a set of five choke tubes, and have spacers for adjusting the length of pull. The new 3-inch chambered 12 gauges with a 28-inch barrel retail from $623.
