Palmetto State Presents Modular Fire Control System Across Several Platforms
Palmetto State Armory always shoots for the stars every SHOT Show, and the company’s new releases for 2026 did not disappoint.
AXR System
Palmetto State's big SHOT Show drop was a new modular fire control unit: the AXR. Palmetto’s goal is for every platform it makes to be as modular and affordable as possible, giving everyone access to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Like other chassis systems, it's all built around this serialized part. PSA plans to build upon this quite differently though. (All photos: Seth Rodgers/Guns.com)
The first AXR chassis comes in the popular Micro size. Palmetto has hit the ball out of the park with the subcompact Micro Dagger that is concealable and maximizes capacity. This new AXR Micro will fit the same size but improves modularity.
At launch, the system will use Glock 43X/Micro Dagger-pattern magazines, with a goal to introduce different grip modules to fit any micro-compact magazine pattern.
The user now can move the AXR modular fire control unit system from grip frame to grip frame, further customizing their handgun. Some folks may like a light polymer frame, while others prefer a heavier metal frame.
The goal is to introduce grip frames that will accommodate any micro handgun magazine pattern on the market. For now, the platform will be compatible with Glock 43X/Micro Dagger magazines.
Different modules will be available based on the end user needs.
Palmetto is also introducing a new ported barrel and slide with this AXR Micro series.
AXR Handgun
The same concept of the AXR Micro applies to the standard AXR handgun. Much like the Dagger, the AXR is a third-generation Glock-pattern handgun. With the addition of the AXR modular fire control unit, the user can have a sub, compact, compact, or full-size grip frame.
Just like the AXR Micro, the goal is to have grip frame modules for any magazine pattern to feed on the same Gen3 Glock system. The launch also sees a P320 grip frame module to accommodate the common P320 magazine.
Palmetto is not the first company to introduce this customization in the form of a chassis, but it is the first company to introduce a grip frame that can use different magazine patterns. Built off the same Glock Gen3 design, the user can now get a grip frame that accommodates SIG P320 magazines.
The options are limitless.
Initially, the company plans to introduce the AXR with a Glock and SIG P320-pattern grip frame, but it’s also working on designing a lower to fit many different popular pattern handgun magazines.
AXR PDW
Building on the same modular fire control unit from the AXR handgun, Palmetto is introducing the AXR PDW (Personal Defense Weapon). Basically, PSA has its own Flux system for the new handgun line.
The AXR PDW is a page out of the Flux playbook, with a new modular defensive handgun system that adds points of contact.
These PDW chassis will use the same slide, barrel, and modular fire control group from the standard AXR handgun. The system will have a quick-deploy brace that folds, allowing for rapid deployment. This will add points of contact for a more accurate shooting experience.
This rapid deployment brace firearm will allow the user the ability to take different magazine patterns to a larger format handgun.
The AXR PDW will also have a chassis built for the different magazine patterns. There will be a standard grip that houses the loaded mag, with a forward-mounted magazine holder for the spare mag. M-LOK slots up front allow mounting of accessories or other chassis systems that maximize accessory use.
It is cool to see another company realizing the benefits of the PDW system, with all credit going to Flux Defense.
AXR SSP
The AXR SSP is the newest rifle system from Palmetto State, and it is really the accumulation of work done on the company’s Jakl firearms.
The idea of the AXR SSP is a bufferless, non-mil-spec receiver design. While it is not mil-spec, the base receivers will be compatible with a variety of different parts and options within the same AXR platform. This will allow the user to swap barrel links, handguards, barrel calibers, and much more from the comfort of their own home.
The AXR SSP is a modular, short-stroke gas piston design that allows the user to change barrel lengths, calibers, and handguards from the comfort of home.
The AXR SSP is a short-stroke gas piston (hence the name) that features a three-position gas setting: standard, suppressed, and adverse. This gas system is extremely light and does not add a lot of weight toward the front of the firearm.
This system also uses the new PSA E4 bolt system with increased lug diameters and dual ejectors, allowing the user to use the same bolt for 5.56, .300 Blackout, 6mm ARC, and .338 ARC with no issues or concerns of wear.
As always, PSA continues to innovate.
These firearms will be completely ambidextrous and compatible with AR-15 safeties, triggers, and pistol grips. PSA will produce its own AXR furniture for these firearms. Eventually, there will be endless barrel lengths and calibers, but the initial launch will see the 5.56 and .300 Blackout as the flagship calibers for the design.
This is truly the next generation of firearms for PSA.
