Rock Island Armory came to SHOT show with something special this year: a folding and stowable pump-action shotgun that not only allows compact storage in a backpack but can deploy rapidly.

Manufactured domestically in Cedar City, Utah – not imported – the Pak-Out is a 12-gauge pump platform with a 4+1 capacity and 18.25-inch barrel, giving it an overall length of 37.25 inches.

With an adjustable collapsible stock and pistol grip, it has a hinged receiver that neatly folds the gun in half, dropping it to 18.5 inches. Its spring-assisted pump action ensures the bolt stays locked when folded. (Photos: Chris Eger/Guns.com)

After shooting the Pak-Out on the range, we knew that we had to follow the story during the week. Once the show began, we met up with the famous John "Fancy Pants" McClain, competitive shooter and Armscor team member, to get the low-down on the new platform, and the resulting social media video struck a nerve with the Guns.com audience. Our Facebook reel alone quickly racked up over 3 million views.

The Pak-Out can be fired via the pistol grip with the stock folded, but is safe when the receiver is in its stowed position.

The Pak-Out short uses a 14-inch barrel and is a "firearm," not an NFA-regulated short-barreled shotgun, akin to the Mossberg Shockwave and Remington Tac-14, avoiding extra paperwork and wait times. Of course, you can always do a currently zero-tax Form 1 on it and add a stock if you prefer.

The MSRP is these is expected to be around $650.
