Girsan MC9 T Disruptor X: Affordable Competition Gun
The newest version of Girsan’s MC9 series will get you into fast-action pistol competition quickly without breaking your bank account. If you are a weekend competitor like me, you will appreciate the many features of this low-cost hybrid. Stick with me as I try out the Girsan MC9 T Disruptor X.
EAA is well known as an importer of quality low-cost firearms, and Turkish-made Girsan handguns are of surprisingly high quality given their low price tag. When I first lifted the Disruptor X from its custom case, I thought of Star Trek’s futuristic phaser pistols. Wow, this thing is cool!

Note the serrations at the front...
The first feature that catches my eye is the low bore axis slide. The sights are a bit over an inch above the top of the receiver's beavertail grip. That is crucial to good accuracy and quick pointability. The polymer frame grips are lightly textured and point well for my medium hands, and Girsan has included two extra interchangeable rear grip panels to allow a more custom fit if desired. The large square trigger guard with textured front strap adds confidence when I point the pistol.
The most improved feature of the Disruptor X is the long slide. The long sight radius aids in accuracy with either iron sights or optics. New lightening slots have been cut on the top, sides, and front of the steel slide to keep weight under 2 pounds empty. It also gives the pistol its futuristic space-age look. Aggressive slide serrations on front and back are also included.
More Features
Girsan’s enhanced striker trigger is a two-stage trigger that’s wide and heavy. Although I wasn’t impressed by the 8-pound break point, I found that it could be learned. Notice the bright red cocking indicator at the rear of the slide below the rear sight. When discharged, the red pin disappears – a welcome safety feature.
The trigger is heavy and breaks at just over 8 pounds.
Note the red cocking indicator below the rear sight – a handy safety feature.
The Disruptor X is a full-size handgun with a slim grip that looks smaller than its magazine capacity of 17+1. Two steel double-stack Mec-Gar magazines come with the pistol. They are well made and include polymer bump pads. The magwell is slightly belled, and the magazines insert and drop freely.
Despite its slim design, the grip holds a 17-round magazine.
The threaded barrel is one of the hottest upgrades on this new handgun.
Suppressors are the hottest item in the gun world today. As they become easier to acquire, many new models are being introduced. Girsan has wisely added a threaded barrel to the new Disruptor X, further distinguishing it from some earlier MC9 pistols. Its 5x28 TPI threads will accept most pistol suppressors. This is a great feature to protect the shooter’s hearing as well as everyone else around.
It's ready to add a red dot with the removable optics plate.
Other features that stand out are the removable optics plate, fixed sights, and 2-inch Picatinny rail. If you do not appreciate iron sights, simply remove the rear plate and install your favorite red dot. I love iron sights, and the Disruptor X has beautiful bright white dots that show up well. The forward accessory rail located under the barrel will accept a flashlight or laser sight.
A 2-inch lower rail offers room for a light or laser.
With all the features needed to be a great competitor, let’s see if this Chevy handles like a Cadillac.

SHOOTING TIME
This versatile pistol has a low price, but it is not cheap. It’s well made. The grips feel good in my hand. I like the three bright white dots on the low slide – they stand out against the black steel. I wish the trigger were a bit lighter at the break point, as 8-pounds-plus is a little much for a target pistol, but it can be mastered with practice.
The bright white three-dot sights are easy to pick up.
Shooting PMC Bronze 115-grain jacketed hollow points, my favorites, the combination of long sight radius and low bore axis slide helps me keep three shots touching at 7 yards. Even at 12 yards, I can hit center and make a decent head shot although a bit low. I must follow through on each trigger squeeze to control my hits. This heavier trigger makes me slow down and focus.

The root beer jugs are always my favorite, and the Disruptor X causes them to explode violently. This full-size pistol would be a great choice for home defense. The Disruptor builds my confidence with each shot as I empty the 17-round magazine.
The magazines insert and release easily.
The second magazine slides in easily and automatically slams the slide forward – a great combat or competition feature. Although the soda cans are a challenge, the Disruptor X blows them to bits. Despite some fast shooting and mag dumps, the Girsan Disruptor X had no malfunctions of any kind.
