Comes with box and 2 spare mags
The FN FNX-40 is a full-size, double-/single-action (DA/SA) semi-automatic pistol made by FN America, chambered in the .40 S&W cartridge.
It was introduced in 2009 as part of the FNX series, which succeeded the FNP line.
Key Specifications
Caliber: .40 S&W
Capacity: 14 rounds in standard magazines (some variations and restricted-magazine versions may be lower)
Barrel Length: 4.0 inches, cold hammer-forged stainless steel; twist rate 1:16″ RH.
Overall Length: ~7.4 inches.
Height: ~5.45 inches.
Width: About 1.55 inches.

Features & Design
Frame & Build: Polymer frame with steel slide rails. The grip has checkered and ribbed texture panels; two (or in later versions four) interchangeable backstraps allow fitting to different hand sizes.
Slide & Barrel: Stainless steel slide with front and rear serrations to assist with manipulation. Barrel is cold hammer-forged, with polished chamber and feed ramp for reliable feeding.
Operating Controls: Fully ambidextrous controls—safety/de-cocking lever, slide stop, and magazine release are mirrored on both sides. It uses a ring-style external hammer.
Sights: Comes standard with fixed 3-dot sights. There are options for night sights (tritium) on some models.
Rail & Accessories: Under-barrel MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail for mounting lights or lasers.
Pros & Trade-Offs
Pros:
The DA/SA trigger gives a safer “first-shot” heavier pull with a manual decocker for safer carry.
High capacity for a .40 S&W in a full-size platform, giving good firepower.
Good ergonomics with alternate backstraps, ambidextrous controls, and solid build materials.
Reliable feeding and durability: the stainless slide and barrel, cold hammer forging, etc., are known for ruggedness.
Trade-Offs:
Being a full-size pistol, it’s larger and heavier—less ideal for deep concealment or extended carry compared to compact/slim models.
Recoil is more noticeable than smaller 9mm handguns, especially being .40 S&W, though mitigated somewhat by the weight and frame design.
More complexity (DA/SA mechanism, manual safety / decocker) means more parts, more learning curve, and slightly more maintenance.
Role & Ideal Usage
The FNX-40 is well suited for people who want a duty or home-defense handgun with:
Strong stopping power (.40 S&W) and good magazine capacity.
A robust, rugged build that can take wear and deliver reliable performance.
Ambidextrous features and control versatility for left or right hand shooters.
A pistol that handles well for those who prefer full size—less compromise in grip, sight radius, etc.
If you like, I can compare the FNX-40 directly to the FNX-9 or some other pistols (like the P365, LCP MAX) to show how they differ in handling, ammo cost, recoil, etc.

Shopping at Guns.com gives you the backing of a company that is committed to your satisfaction. And unlike our competitors, it extends beyond the buying process. We get the FFL from your store – others make you find it, copy it, and fax it. We have a generous return policy, and handle everything – you don’t have to go back to the store. And our Rangemasters are here to answer all your questions about our products or process. We're bringing a level of service to the online gun buying experience that is unheard of.
Many online gun sales actually take away from your local community. Instead of buying a gun that’s on your local store’s shelf, most retailers drop ship it from a warehouse in another state. At Guns.com, if an FFL is part of our network, we sell THEIR guns first whenever possible. That way, we’re helping small businesses in your community AND if they have it in stock, you can pick your gun up IMMEDIATELY – it’s how business should be done.
Most everything can be easily bought online these days. But for some reason, buying a gun online can be complicated. Most websites are poorly organized, don’t tell you a lot about what you’re buying, and leave you on your own to figure out what you want. Guns.com is built to be simple – easily organized products, useful descriptions from experts, and support to guide you to the right choice. Spend your time enjoying the gun you want, not getting frustrated with a complex website that makes gun buying hard.
