The SIG Sauer P228 is one of the classic double-action service pistols of the late Cold War and post-Cold War era, respected for its balance, reliability, and exceptionally smooth shooting characteristics. Manufactured in Germany and later assembled/imported through SIG Sauer’s U.S. operations, the P228 became widely known through military and law enforcement use, most famously as the foundation for the U.S. military’s M11 sidearm. Chambered in 9mm, the P228 developed a reputation for combining duty-grade durability with ergonomics that still hold up remarkably well today.
