SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1884

Product Information & Specs

Seller Description For This Firearm

*** The firearm shows only very minor wear, with small chips, dents, scratches, and dings present in the wood furniture. It remains very well preserved overall, though it appears to have been refinished at some point in its history. The metal exhibits a light, even patina. Markings include a “14” on the left side of the stock, “383” stamped on the top of the stock near the hammer, and an eagle alongside the “U.S. Springfield” marking on the receiver. The bore and rifling are in very good condition. Firing is not recommended. ***

General Manufacturer Product Information

The US Springfield Model 1884 “Trapdoor” Carbine in .45-70 Government stands out as a purpose-built cavalry firearm with a distinctive 22-inch barrel. Its shorter length makes it remarkably handy compared to the standard infantry rifle, while still delivering the authoritative power the cartridge is known for.

Fit and finish reflect late 19th-century craftsmanship, and the trapdoor breech mechanism remains simple and historically fascinating. As a collectible, its cavalry-only configuration adds significant appeal. Overall, it’s a compact, iconic piece of American military heritage that balances function, history, and rarity.

WE SUPPORT LOCAL GUN STORES

Many online gun sales actually take away from your local community.  Instead of buying a gun that’s on your local store’s shelf, most retailers drop ship it from a warehouse in another state.  At Guns.com, if an FFL is part of our network, we sell THEIR guns first whenever possible.  That way, we’re helping small businesses in your community AND if they have it in stock, you can pick your gun up IMMEDIATELY – it’s how business should be done.

WE KEEP IT SIMPLE
WE KEEP IT SIMPLE

Most everything can be easily bought online these days.  But for some reason, buying a gun online can be complicated.  Most websites are poorly organized, don’t tell you a lot about what you’re buying, and leave you on your own to figure out what you want.  Guns.com is built to be simple – easily organized products, useful descriptions from experts, and support to guide you to the right choice.  Spend your time enjoying the gun you want, not getting frustrated with a complex website that makes gun buying hard.
