The J. Stevens Arms Company produced two distinct single-shot falling block actions known as the Model 44 and the Model 44 1/2. While the original 44 was intended for low-pressure cartridges, Harry Pope helped design the robust Model 44 1/2 specifically to handle high-pressure smokeless loads, making it a perfect platform for the .219 Zipper.Because the .219 Zipper was introduced by Winchester in 1937—long after the original 1902-1916 production run of the Stevens 44 1/2—any Stevens 44 1/2 chambered in .219 Zipper is either a custom build, a re-barreled classic, or a modern reproductio
