The Thompson/Center Encore chambered in .17 HMR is a single-shot, break-action rifle or pistol (depending on barrel and configuration) that uses the Encore's interchangeable barrel system. T/C introduced .17 HMR rimfire barrels for the Encore in 2007 using a dedicated monoblock barrel design, allowing the same Encore frame to be used without modification.

One of the Encore's biggest advantages is versatility. If you own the Encore frame, you can swap to barrels in many other rimfire, centerfire, shotgun, or muzzleloader calibers (subject to the appropriate barrel and configuration).
