Iconic gun maker Colt introduced a new chambering for the ubiquitous 1911 design, according to an announcement Monday.

The Colt Competition Pistol series will now include a .38 Super model, a round that that “has a lot of advantages in competition when considering power factor and capacity,” said Mark Redl, a pro shooter and Colt’s product manager, in the statement.

The pistol features Colt’s Dual Spring Recoil System to reduce felt recoil, Novak’s new patent pending adjustable rear sight and fiber optic front sight, competition ergonomics including an undercut trigger guard and upswept beavertail safety, and a National Match barrel.

The Colt Competition Pistol in .38 Super with blued finish retails for $999. The series also offers models in .45 ACP and 9mm.
