Oregon-based Nosler announced their new M48 Mountain Carbon ultra lightweight rifle at SHOT Show this week.

Chambered in seven calibers initially, the 48-series bolt-action rifle comes standard with a match grade, cut rifled carbon-wrapped barrel bedded into a Granite Green Ultra-light Mountain Hunter stock.

With a 24-inch PROOF Research Sendero-contour barrel, the series tips the scale across the board at 6-pounds flat while the overall length runs about 45-inches. It includes a Timney Trigger with a two-position safety, a hinged aluminum floorplate, and a 5/8x24TPI threaded barrel.

With the receiver finished in a Tungsten Grey Cerakote, the M48 Mountain Carbon has both a carbon fiber stock with a textured finish and carbon-wrapped barrel.

The rifle is offered in short actions for 6mm and 6.5mm Creedmoor with a four-round magazine capacity. Long action variants in .26, .28, .30, and .33 Nosler as well as .300 Win Mag have a three-round capacity. Company reps tell Guns.com that other calibers, such as 7mm-08, are on the table in the coming months.

Pitched to avid sheep and mountain goat hunters who treasure a rugged and dependable rifle that can deliver at distance but count every ounce they have to pack, the MSRP is $3,140.

The new rifle is a great complement to Nosler’s legacy Model 48 Long Range Carbon, which also sports a carbon fiber-wrapped match-grade barrel but has a Manners MCS-T Elite Tac carbon fiber stock in Elite Midnight camo. It weighs in at 7 pounds.
